NTFS Partition- Missing $UsnJrnl or $LogFile file

You may have noticed on several occasions that your Windows system becomes too slow and takes too long to start. This occurs because the NTFS file system of Windows is damaged due to various reasons such as virus infection, human error, power surges, sudden system shutdown, etc. In fact, for these reasons, some files files start or system may have damaged or deleted. For this reason, Windows can not start properly and therefore NTFS partitions become inaccessible. In these cases, take corrective measures to recover the NTFS partition. However, if you can not do, you must use third party software NTFS partition recovery software to recover NTFS data recovery efficient and secure.

Imagine a scenario where you can not boot your Windows NTFS partition. Error message is displayed, that is:

An error occurred during directory enumeration."
When you run chkdsk on an NTFS partition, the process ends successfully without detecting any error or corrections. If you run chkdskvolume_drive_letter:/p recovery console command for no error is detected. Having said that you still can not start or turn up the volume.

Cause

The root cause of this problem is the NTFS partition is an invalid folder or file is damaged in UsnJrnl or $ file $ logfile. These files are internal files used by NTFS and Chkdsk does not check the integrity of these files.

Resolution

To resolve this situation and to access the system again, you can do one of the following methods:

  • Use Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Recovery Console to repair UsnJrnl $ file.
  • Use the Fsutil.exe tool from a Windows XP CD-ROM to remove the Change/USN journal. Move the drive to another computer running Windows 2000 to make repairs.
  • By doing any of the above methods, you can solve the problem. However, if you still can not reboot, you must use a third party tool to recover files for NTFS file recovery. These read-only tool to recover lost data using sophisticated algorithms and rapid analysis.
