Master Boot Record (or MBR) is a critical component of your computer system. It contains the hard disk's primary partition table and some machine code instructions that are responsible for bootstrapping the operating system of your computer. If the MBR of your primary hard disk containing the operating system is damaged, it may cause serious problems to your computer. In the Disk Management swap-in, you may see your disk as 'Dynamic Unreadable'. When you try converting it back to a basic disk, you may probably lose all your information stored on the disk. To recover back your lost valuable data in such situations, you need to go for partition recovery through a reliable third party utility.
While converting your 'Dynamic Unreadable' disk using the 'Revert to Basic Disk' option after right clicking the disk, you may receive the following message on your computer screen:
“Data on the this disk will be lost if you convert the disk to Basic, do you wish to continue ?”
Cause:
The MBR partition table may be containing an invalid partition type other than the 'OEM', 'Extended', 'Type 0x42' supported partition types for dynamic volumes.
As a consequence, it may render your partition data inaccessible. You should regularly back up your hard drive so that you can use this backup to recover partition data in case of a corruption and data loss.
Resolution:
You should first run 'Diskmap.exe' utility to check whether incorrect partition's System IDs are causing the problem. If this is the case, try to change the System-ID values to type '0x42' using 'Dskprobe.exe' utility.
After following the above procedure, your system may become unbootable and you may receive the following STOP error message:
"STOP 0x0000006F SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED"
To overcome this problem, you should take help of a reliable partition recovery software. These software use sophisticated algorithms for scanning your corrupt or inaccessible hard drive partitions and are effective in recovering your lost data in almost all cases of corruption.
Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is a helpful utility that supports partition recovery from FAT, NTFS, and exFAT file system based partitions. It enables you to filter or mask the recovered files based on their file types. It can perform Windows recovery of all your lost, deleted, or inaccessible photos, images, audio/video files, MS Office documents etc. from corrupt partitions.
